    Using Creative Expression with Talk Therapy:

    The Healing Power of Expressive Arts

    Participants attending this event will have an increased awareness of how creative expression can help one express feelings and thoughts that are difficult to verbalize or put into words, complementing the traditional talk therapy experience.

    Participants attending will also be able to identify three types of expressive arts which might be helpful for their clients and identify appropriate resources in the community as well as online.

    Finally, participants attending will acquire a new skill in creative expression which can be used, if desired, personally or with client. Direct experience will be offered during the presentation.

    Ellie Fields, MS, LPC, CPC, LIMHP is a licensed mental health practitioner, independent contractor, and partner with The Attachment and Trauma Center of Nebraska in Omaha. Ellie has been in the field of mental health counseling for over 15 years. Focusing on adults 19 and older. Ellie is an EMDR Level 2 practitioner, and is trained in clinical hypnosis, Thought Field Therapy, and is a Reiki Master. She uses an eclectic approach weaving cognitive behavioral foundation with mind/body techniques and mindfulness.

    Elizabeth (Betsy) Funk LCSW, LIMHP, MPA is the co-founder of a new and innovative mental health practice called Omaha Therapy and Arts Collaborative ( serving the Greater Omaha and Council Bluffs communities. Betsy provides therapeutic services for individuals and families as well Expressive Arts workshops for clients and helping practitioners. Betsy developed and implements a series of Expressive Arts groups for children which she facilitates in numerous area schools. 

    W. Jea Theis LMHP has been working in the social services and mental health field for over ten years.  She started out in the area of family violence, as a men's domestic violence counselor and CPS worker.  After completing her MSW degree in 2007, she practiced in a community mental health counseling center, then spent time working children and families impacted by sexual abuse and other trauma.  She has received specialized training in EMDR, Trauma-focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Parent-child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), and Compassion Fatigue.  She holds certifications as a Trauma Professional, as well as a Compassion Fatigue Educator. Over the last three years, she has provided grief and loss counseling to individuals and families after a death, and those adjusting to critical or terminal illnesses.  Her second passion is increasing awareness about compassion fatigue - providing education and consultation to agencies and supporting those working in helping professions in our community
