Cultural Competency When Treating
Public Safety Personnel
Treating police officers, firefighters, paramedics, and other first responders can be a rewarding niche within the field of mental health. However, it is vital that the therapist fully understand the workplace culture of first responders, as this necessitates a different set of techniques and awareness in order to provide effective intervention. Dr. Shari Conner will provide an introduction to these concepts.
Dr. Shari Conner has been a psychologist in the Omaha area for 17 years. She specializes in assessment and has been specifically working with public safety officers for the last 7 years. She has attended several national conventions and currently consults with and provides services for over 25 different departments. These include the Omaha Police and Fire Departments, the Nebraska State Patrol, the Lincoln Police Department, and several county Sheriffs.
